Travels With Dick and Judy

Follow us in our trials, triumphs and tribulations, while on the road in our motor home "The Liberty Belle". We chose to forsake the conventional lifestyle in our 3,000+ square-foot home to move into a 40-foot Winnebago Ultimate Freedom. Travel with us as we take you on the road with us in our new lifestyle.
I may grow older, but I'll never grow up!

Time to wrap it up!–June 27-July 7, 2014!

I really did have good intentions to blog every 1-2 weeks but, once again, it did not happen!  My “plan” is to catch up once more, and I hope you enjoy following us.

Our last week as volunteer park hosts at Martin S. Dies, Jr. State Park was also fairly uneventful. On a rainy Saturday afternoon (June 28th), we did enjoy another yellow meat watermelon from the fruit and veggie stand in nearby Jasper, Texas.

On Monday, June 30th, we made a crazy trip to Katy, Texas to visit Mike, April, Ben and Colby; then, to Seabrook, Texas (about 60 miles away) to deliver “stuff” to Michelle and Logan and see their new vehicle – a Volkswagen Touareg; and, finally, back to the park.

On Tuesday, July 1st, our park host and gate guard friends, Dave and Sue Lubbers (and their 3 Miniature Dachshunds), whom we had not seen since last August, came to the park for a day visit before heading north to Minnesota for a long-awaited visit with their families. Dave and Sue look deep in thought listening to Dick, don’t they?! We prepared (or mainly Dick, but I am a great “go-fer” and clean-up person) shrimp creole with rice, fried corn and green beans with new potatoes – a real Cajun meal for “linner”, which was yummy! The "girls" - Lucy, Molly and Jodie – enjoyed cleaning the dishes, too!

On Wednesday, July 2nd, I finally “bit the bullet” so to speak and made a dental appointment in Jasper due to being in pain for over a week and thinking I had a severe infection – which was totally unacceptable with our “RV vacation” beginning in less than a week. Fortunately, the dentist pulled the tooth and gave me pain meds and an antibiotic, which “fixed” the problem – and for not too much money. either!

The following day was our last day of site checks at the park, and July 4th was our last day as volunteers. How special that we were treated to this view of Lake Steinhagen on our morning rounds.

Shortly after noon, Dick and I headed for Lake Charles, Louisiana and had a quick visit with my brother Jim and sister-in-law Sharon. This picture is not as sharp as I would like, but it is rare that Sharon and I have a picture taken together.

We then went to my classmate Kay Allison Benton’s new home in Sulphur, Louisiana for my Lake Charles High School Class of 1965’s get-together. It was great seeing classmates and catching up! Here are a few of the photos I took, but check out the album below if you would like to see more.

Our weekend was spent washing the “Liberty Belle” and getting everything ready to travel the next week.

On Sunday evening, we made the trip to Seabrook once more, stayed overnight and brought Logan back on Monday, so we could head north from the park on Tuesday, July 8th – my stories for another day.
